Silk Velvet Textile Course
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the techniques used in printing and painting velvet, we will explore a fantastic range of colour using procion dyes, which when mixed together with soda ash and urea are colour fast after drying. We will also explore the use of discharge printing on dark velvet, both these methods are very suitable for making velvet scarves, bags, and cushions, while larger scale pieces are suitable for fashion or home interior use. Natural or abstract subject matter lends itself ideally to this medium.
This course is for students of all abilities, no previous drawing skill is needed. There are lots of ways to design great one off textile prints taking inspiration from natural and every day objects. The course will provide students with test pieces, a length of fabric for a scarf or cushion, all dyes and equipment. Velvet is also available to buy. Please wear old clothes, bring rubber gloves if worried about your hands. Dye stains. Lunch is provided with a vegetarian option, plus tea and coffee during the day. Available as a 1, 2 or 3 day course.
